The GRAND CANAL OF CHINA which is also known as the BEIJING-HANGZHOU GRAND CANAL is the longest canal in the world, measures 1,794 kilometres long. It was built to carry the Emperor Yang Guang between Beijing and Hangzhou.The work of building the canal began in 605 AD and was completed in 609 AD, although much of the work combined older canals.
